Pastor's Birthday and Anniversaries
We all take great care to herald the birthdays and wedding anniversaries of our friends and loved ones, but sometimes we forget that our pastor celebrates these “earthly milestones” too. Planning a special church-wide brunch the Sunday before or after a pastor’s birthday is a simple way to mark such a special occasion. As a pastor and his wife’s wedding anniversary approaches, why not find a book about faithful marriage and have all the church elders, deacons and staffers sign the inside cover before presenting it to your pastor? The gesture will cost next to nothing, but it will mean the world to your pastor and his wife.
And just to show you just how meaningful a little thought and planning for pastor on his birthday can be, check out the video below of a beloved pastor being surprised on his 50th with a special celebration.
You don’t have to wait for the calendar to flip to October, or a pastor’s birthday to approach to show true appreciation for a member of the ministry. Maybe it’s the children’s minister you especially want to honor, or the church music director. If the head of your congregation’s food pantry or meals on wheels program has done an exceptional job, show them a little appreciation.
The important thing to remember is there is no such thing as the “right” way to honor someone, and no such time as the “right” time to do it. Let your creativity and your relationship with God be your guide and enjoy making a member of the church community’s day that much brighter.
